Introduction

Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.- Barack Obama.

Regardless of your political beliefs, change is all around us. Changes in politics, changes in the global economy, changes in the climate. This is also true with software development. If you are a software developer, change is good.

Linux by Knight Post 032 Rails 3_2 Arrives

Ruby On Rails logo The Ruby on Rails developers have now released Rails 3.2, the opinionated Ruby framework for web development. Originally intended for a December release, 3.2 will be the last Rails release that supports Ruby 1.8.7; Rails 4.0, the next major release of Rails, will require Ruby 1.9.3 or above.

Kernel Log: Linux 3.3 Goes into Testing

Linux 3.3 can change the size of ext4 filesystems faster and supports ACPI 5.0, LPAE for ARM processors, Ethernet teaming and hot replace for software RAID. Meanwhile, Linux 3.1 has reached the end of the line, and the Linux Ate My RAM web site explains why Linux often appears to use all of the RAM.

Linux by Knight Post 031 Ubuntu 10.04 Lives! Go Back To The Future With Lucid Lynx

We don't hear a lot about Linux lately because its going under an assumed name:  IOS (is mostly BeOS/Linux)  and Android (is mostly Linux) and has been running SmartPhones.

How do you think the "hackers" learned to hack it so quickly?

It was a pretty well known system folks.

A Hackers are still doing pretty good work out there.

But sometimes even Linux jumps ahead of itself, and takes a side-road down a wrong path.

Like Ubuntu lately.

Does Oneiric have you down?  Is your hardware not up to snuff?  Well, what are you going to do about it?  Ubuntu 10.04 is almost 2 years old now, but you can teach it the electric slide even if all it know how to do is the funky chicken.  Here is a short and simple guide for bringing
Ubuntu 10.04 into 2012.

Fast-forward to 2011 with Backports

First things first.  Enable backports.

Go to ‘System==>Administration==>Software Sources’,
click on the ‘Updates’ tab and click ‘Unsupported Updates (Lucid Backports)’.

Linux Mint 12 snapshot.

The Mint project released the final Linux Mint 12 ("Lisa"), which offers "MGSE" extensions to GNOME 3.2 that let users create a more GNOME 2.3x-like environment. Based on Ubuntu 11.10 and Linux 3.0, Linux Mint 12 features upgrades to Firefox 7.0, LibreOffice 3.4.3 and Thunderbird 7.0.1.
